Persian rugs are known all over the world for their extraordinary beauty and quality.
And it’s clear why Persian rugs
take this position – from an ancient times carpets have significant position in Persia. Persian houses didn’t have much furniture inside, so rugs were the main detail of interior.
Classification of Persian rugs
have 3 groups: rugs of Safavids period, rugs with another ornament and generic rugs. At the early times of carpet making Persian rugs were used for the gifts. In 3 century A.D. producers of rugs began to sell it.
Rugs making reached its highest point of development in Persia in 15 - 17 centuries.
Tebriz, Great, Kashan and Kerman became the main centers of this industry. Persian rugs were weaved in another cities and they had many variations – much more that we have today.
In 17 century many famous Persian rugs came into Europe.
In 1612 polish king obtained one from the Armenian merchant. Few years later senior of Venezia got three silk rugs from the Persian shah as a gift.
Till today Iran remains the biggest manufacturer of carpets. Another countries where this art ios developed highly are India, Pakistan, Nepal and China. But only Persian rugs are synonym of the real oriental carpets famous all over the world.
